Dr. Xie earned his Ph.D. in cell biology from the University of Dundee, Scotland. He completed his postdoctoral training in dermatology and cancer biology at the University of California at San Francisco. His research focused on hedgehog signaling in human disorders particularly skin cancer, gastrointestinal-track cancers, and fibrosis, using a range of model systems and technologies. Dr. Xie has extensive experience in the use of animal modeling, signal transduction, and real-world data analyses. He has published ~100 articles in the field of cancer biology, disease modeling and signal transduction. He taught graduate-level courses in biomedical-related disciplines and mentored over 50 scientists.

Dr. Xie came to CSR from Indiana University, where he was a professor. He was principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple federal grants from NIH and DOD. He also served as a reviewer for CSR and NCI.
