Dr. Lauren Penney is an anthropologist and implementation scientist. She received a Ph.D. in medical anthropology from the University of Arizona, where she also conducted post-doctoral research on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster with funding from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and, separately, whole health interventions for chronic pain with support from the NIH. Before joining CSR, she was an investigator with the Veterans Health Administration (VA) at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and affiliated with the University of Texas Health at San Antonio. Her mixed methods work focused on transitions of care, home and community-based services, and caregiving. She also conducted implementation evaluations within the VA on a broad range of interventions, including those related to stroke/transient ischemic attack, pain, care coordination, telehealth, and caregiver support.
