Dr. Syed Moin earned his Ph.D. in molecular virology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, conducting his thesis research on host-pathogen interactions involving hepatitis E virus at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, India, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA. He received postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University studying the principles of membrane proteolysis, its role in host invasion by Toxoplasma gondii, and the effects of NSAIDs on membrane protease specificity. He then joined the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at NIAID, NIH, where his work focused on developing vaccines against respiratory viruses, including RSV, influenza virus, and SARS-CoV-2. He served as associate director for Guidehouse Inc. and was responsible for advancing universal influenza haemagglutinin (HA) stem-based nanoparticle vaccines at VRC, NIH, and received multiple patents on influenza nanoparticle vaccines. He led preclinical studies and coordinated efforts with the FDA, NIH, CDC, Animal and Plant Health Agency in the UK, universities, and major biotech companies. Dr. Moin further served as lead scientific reviewer at the Food and Drug Administration, conducting product evaluation, guidance development, and review of pre-market submissions, providing recommendations for approval of respiratory virus (SARS-CoV-2, influenza, RSV) medical devices.
