Dr. Ombretta Salvucci received her Ph.D. in cancer biology in a combined program between the Gustave Roussy Institute of Oncology in France and the University of Pavia in Italy. She subsequently worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Experimental Oncology, in the Human Tumor Immunobiology Unit at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan, Italy, before joining the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology (LCO) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a staff scientist. During her years at LCO, she had the privilege of working on tumor vascular biology and particularly on multiple projects on the mechanisms of tumor endothelial cell growth and morphogenesis. She has identified a role for novel molecules such as the Eph/EphrinB transmembrane proteins in tumor vasculature and has made the seminal observation that EphrinB2 signaling plays a critical role in vessel remodeling and clarified the molecular signals that mediate such critical function. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Salvucci was a scientific review officer at the National Cancer Institute.
