Dr. Beata Buzas received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Attila Jozsef University in Szeged, Hungary. She was a postdoctoral fellow, then a research assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacology of the Uniformed Services University, focusing on the regulation of the opioid system by oxidative stress, neuroinflammatory mediators, and neurotrophic factors. She then joined the Section of Pain Genetics at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) as a Senior Fellow of Neurogenetics, studying the genetic underpinnings of pain perception. She later led the Inter-institute Initiative on Functional Genomics of Affective Disorders between the Mood and Anxiety Program at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Laboratory of Neurogenetics at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Prior to joining CSR, she was a scientific review officer at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) for more than a decade.
