This is a special emphasis panel that reviews applications that study fundamental, preclinical and clinical aspects of neurological disorders that affect behavior and psychology. Applications reviewed focus on molecular basis of neurodevelopmental disorder of the nervous system, clinical and preclinical studies researching environmental, social and metabolic factors influencing behavior from infancy to adulthood. The panel reviews applications that emphasize mechanistic as well as preclinical approaches to neurodevelopmental disorders and neuropsychiatric behavior. Disorders reviewed here include but are not limited to autism, ASD, ADHD, schizophrenia, mood and anxiety disorder.

Review Dates

Topics

  • Mechanisms driving neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorder across lifespan.
  • Translational and clinical basis of biological, social and/or environmental basis of behavioral disorders.
  • Computational approaches related to neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders across lifespan.
  • Clinical, preclinical and mechanistic studies underlying addiction and behavioral disorder (including but not limited to stress, anxiety, mood) that have a neurobiological focus/outcome.

Shared Interests and Overlaps

There is a significant shared interest with the https://public.csr.nih.gov/StudySections/DNDA/CN/DBD  (DBD) on developmental disorders. Applications that focus on mechanistic, preclinical and clinical aspects developmental disorders of the brain, in-utero, abnormalities in brain structure, function and connectivity are reviewed in DBD while mechanistic, preclinical and clinical, developmental disorders of the nervous system are reviewed in CN-82. Applications on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of developmental disorders in neonatal and pediatric population are reviewed in DBD while CN82 reviews these topics when in an adolescent or young adult population.

There is a significant shared interest with https://public.csr.nih.gov/StudySections/DNDA/CN/NPAS  (NPAS) and PMD on neuropsychiatric and mental disorders. Applications that are focused on human and clinical aspects of psychiatric behavior, addiction and sleep are reviewed in NPAS. The applications that emphasize on cellular, mechanistic and preclinical studies on neurobiology of psychiatric and mental disorders are reviewed in PMDA. Clinical, preclinical and mechanistic studies driving developmental and neuropsychiatric disorder in adolescence and adulthood are reviewed in CN-82

There are shared interests in the areas of neuropsychiatric and sleep disorders with https://public.csr.nih.gov/StudySections/DABP/BP/ALP(ALP). Applications that emphasize more on preclinical and clinical aspects of structural and mechanistic aspects and the etiology, neural mechanisms, diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disorders in are reviewed in CN-82. Applications that emphasize emotional, and/or behavioral aspects of psychopathology are reviewed in ALP.

There is some shared interest regarding effects of chronic exposure to drugs of abuse with NAS. Applications that emphasize the negative consequences of exposure to drugs of abuse throughout development and in adulthood, rather than motivational aspects of addiction are reviewed in NAS. Applications that emphasize etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of alcoholism and are reviewed in CN 82.

There is some shared interest with NBMB. Applications that focus on the neurobiology and circuitry of motivated behavior are reviewed in NBMB while applications that model psychiatric disorders, and examine how these mediate cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, and learning abnormalities may be better suited for review by CN82
