Dr. Rebecca Burgess came to CSR from a faculty position at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland, where she taught microbiology, molecular genetics, and cell biology. Her research focused on the impact of chromatin structure on the DNA damage response, as well as best practices in the design and implementation of course-based research experiences for undergraduates. Dr. Burgess received her Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics from Columbia University, where she studied the regulation of DNA repair pathways and genetic recombination. She then moved to the National Cancer Institute, where she conducted postdoctoral research on the role of genome organization on the DNA damage signaling.
