Small Business Study Sections of ISB Review Branch

The ISB review branch evaluates Small Business Innovation Research [SBIR] and Small Business Technology Transfer [STTR] grant applications in three study sections. Specific descriptions of topics covered by each one are detailed below.

ISB (10)    ISB (11)    ISB (12)

Topics

ISB (10) Biomedical Imaging (Dr. Krystyna Szymczyk)

This study section reviews SBIR and STTR grant applications involving basic, applied and pre-clinical aspects of the design and development of medical imaging systems, their components, software and mathematical methods, and related technologies. Also reviewed are proposals involving the application, validation and optimization of in vivo human and animal imaging, including early phase clinical aspects of medical imaging systems, agents, software and mathematical methods, or related technologies.

ISB (11) Biomedical Sensing, Measurement and Instrumentation (Dr. Steven Ripp)

This study section reviews SBIR and STTR grant applications involving development of instrumentation and devices for biomedical sensing, measurement, diagnosis and surgery. The work on innovative sensors may range from fundamental physical, mechanical or chemical transduction through basic measurement principles to the design of novel instruments for clinical use. The work on innovative devices may range from basic mechanical devices, electrical/photonic devices, and materials for surgical procedural and wound healing applications.

ISB (12) Cardiovascular and Surgical Devices (Dr. Willard Wilson)

This study section reviews SBIR and STTR grant applications that focus on innovative research and technology development of biomedical devices and systems. The devices and systems are designed for surgery, cardiovascular diseases and life support in critical care and trauma.
