Cell and Developmental Biology CDB
Study Section:
Cellular Mechanisms in Aging and Development Study Section CMAD

Dr. Beverly Doran earned her Ph.D. in genetics from Penn State University College of Medicine, where she studied the molecular mechanisms underlying mutation and fidelity at microsatellite sequences. She then trained at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in the Laboratory of Molecular Gerontology, focusing on DNA repair and its effects on aging, neurodegeneration, cellular senescence, and mitochondrial function. Dr. Doran continued her work at the NIA as a biologist, studying base excision repair using purified proteins, primary cell extracts, and mouse tissues to explore the role of this essential repair pathway in maintaining both mitochondrial and nuclear health. A key focus of her research was understanding how deficiencies in DNA repair contributed to the development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and how therapeutic interventions aimed at improving DNA repair may have alleviated AD pathology.
