Dr. Nilkantha Sen earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Jadavpur University in India and completed postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Sen subsequently held faculty positions as an assistant professor at Augusta University and later as an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, Dr. Sen has developed a broad and influential research portfolio in neuroscience, focusing on mechanisms of cell survival and death, neuroinflammation and innate immune responses, synaptic degeneration, neurovascular dysfunction, memory impairment, and white matter injury in brain injury and neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Sen has extensive expertise using genetically modified mouse models to study these processes and in developing potential therapeutic biotechnology products and biologics for neurological disorders and brain injury. As a principal investigator, Dr. Sen secured multiple NIH R01 awards and published numerous peer‑reviewed research articles in high‑impact journals. Dr. Sen has also served as an external reviewer for NIH, the Department of Defense, and international funding agencies and previously worked as a scientific review officer (SRO) at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), leading reviews of multi‑component and complex cooperative proposals.
