Review Branch Summary

Neuropathology A (NPA) Review Branch reviews applications that have brain, neuronal and neurovascular injury and disorders as their focus. Applications may be mechanism driven, preclinical, translational and clinical in nature. They can use relevant animal models, non-human primates and human subjects/specimens to study injury and disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system. In addition, the NPA review branch also has study sections that study neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation associated with injury/disorder of the nervous system, auto-immune disorders that impact neurons and nervous system, mechanisms and neural basis of pain and itch. The review branch also reviews applications on tumors of the nervous system and brain when they are focusing on neuro-immune crosstalk and neuromodulation. Studies may include some neuroimaging, computational modeling and electrophysiology. Studies may also include different -omics in context of brain/neuronal injury and neurovascular disorder Studies that focus on different aspects of circuit dysfunction (pertaining to trauma/injury), clearance and blood brain barrier are also reviewed here.
