Dr. Karine Jegalian received her Ph.D. in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she used molecular biology techniques to study the evolution of gene pairs on the mammalian X and Y chromosomes. She worked as a science writer for the National Human Genome Research Institute during the Human Genome Project, and later, as a freelance science writer and consultant, she attended meetings and helped coordinate activities for large genome projects, such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium. As a freelance science writer and consultant for 19 years, she also took on a variety of other projects for biomedical research organizations, with clients including agencies and offices within the Department of Health and Human Services, universities, and nonprofit institutions. She returned to federal employment as the lead speechwriter for the NIH Director before joining CSR as a scientific review officer.
