Dr. Jui Pandhare received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. Her thesis research was focused on functional characterization of microbial protease inhibitors for agricultural and industrial use. She then moved to the National Cancer Institute/NIH as a postdoctoral fellow where she studied the enzymes of the proline metabolic pathway and defined their role in cancer metabolism and bioenergetics. Thereafter, she joined the Center of AIDS Health Disparities Research at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN and worked on examining the role of cellular metabolism in retroviral pathogenesis. She was subsequently promoted to the rank of assistant professor in the School of Graduate Studies and Research at Meharry Medical College. Her NIH-funded research program focused on understanding the complex interaction between HIV-1 neuropathogenesis, drug abuse and antiretroviral therapy. She also taught biochemistry and medical microbiology at Meharry and served as a research mentor to several undergraduate, masters, Ph.D. and medical students from under presented minority background. She was promoted to the rank of associate professor at Meharry before joining CSR.
