Respiratory, Cardiac, and Circulatory Sciences Review Branch – RCCS
Dr. Eugene Carstea
Chief
Review Branch Summary
The Respiratory, Cardiac, and Circulatory Sciences Review Branch is led by Dr. Gene Carstea. RCCS will consider research applications that employ basic investigations, translational approaches and patient-oriented studies to focus on the development, physiology, and pathophysiology of the cardiac and pulmonary systems. Cardiac study sections are organized around themes of cardiac development, muscle contraction including cardiac hypertrophy and failure, cardiovascular electrophysiology and arrhythmias, myocardial ischemia and metabolism and include a study section devoted to clinical investigation. Respiratory study sections focus on inflammation and immune dysfunctions in the lung, lung injury, repair and remodeling, and the integrative biology and control mechanisms of the lung and its related organs and tissues. Investigators may employ a range of approaches that include genetics, genomics and proteomics, molecular, cell, and computational biology, biochemistry, biophysics and bioengineering, imaging, analyses of model organisms, and human studies.
