Dr. Vilen Alexander Movsesyan received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Molecular Biology, USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow, where he studied the role of nerve growth factor in neuronal cell differentiation. He continued his research in the field of neuroscience at the Sector on Growth Factors, NICHD/NIH. Before joining CSR, Dr. Movsesyan worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C., where his research efforts were focused on mechanisms of neuronal cell death and development of protective treatment approaches, such as potential therapeutic strategies using metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) and caspase activity modulation. He also studied the role of cell cycle regulatory proteins and cell cycle inhibitors in neuronal injury.
