Dr. Schueler received her Ph.D. in genetics from Case Western Reserve University under the mentorship of Huntington Willard. Her thesis proposing a novel evolutionary model for the expansion of centromeric satellite sequences was published in Science. Before joining CSR, Dr. Schueler was a senior research fellow in the laboratory of Eric Green at the National Human Genome Research Institute. In addition to expanding her research into primate pericentromeric evolution with large scale comparative genomic sequencing, she served as a DNA Day ambassador participating in Human Genome Project public outreach activities such as speaking at local high schools and serving as an expert in online DNA Day chat rooms.
