Review Branch Summary
The Aging and Neurodegeneration (AN) Review Branch reviews basic, applied, and clinical grant applications on human aging (geriatric and late-life disorders involving multiple organ systems), neurodegenerative diseases, and neurocognitive disorders (examining the cellular and molecular aspects of neurodegeneration at the mechanistic level, or using animal model experimental approaches or human-subject based studies to address the mechanisms, etiology, pathogenesis and management of these diseases and disorders). These neurodegenerative diseases and neurocognitive disorders include Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRD); other dementias including mild cognitive impairment (MCI), dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal lobe dementia (FTLD) and vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID); Parkinson’s disease (PD) and other movement disorders (Huntington’s disease (HD), dystonia, dyskinesia, and ataxias); and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and related motor neuron disorders.
